What is an FRP Tank?
Glass Fiber Reinforced Plastic (FRP), or GRP, is a superior composite material obtained by reinforcing polyester resin with glass fibers. FRP tanks are created by producing this material in a cylindrical form using filament winding technology.
Unlike traditional metal or concrete tanks, FRP tanks do not corrode due to their molecular structure. This makes them indispensable for acid, caustic, food, and water storage projects.
Advantages of FRP Tanks in Industrial Storage
1. Superior Corrosion Resistance
Metal tanks rust and decay over time. Even stainless steel can be vulnerable to certain chemicals. However, FRP tanks are produced with special resins according to the type of chemical stored (ozone, hydrochloric acid, sodium hypochlorite, etc.), retaining their original form for years.
2. Lightweight and High Strength
Although FRP material is much lighter than steel, it offers much higher strength relative to its weight. This significantly reduces transportation and installation costs.
3. Long Life and Low Maintenance
The service life of a properly manufactured FRP tank can reach 50 years. Since its inner and outer surfaces are smooth, it does not hold sediment, is easy to clean, and does not require periodic painting or coating.
4. Thermal Insulation and Durability
FRP is a material with low thermal conductivity. This ensures that the liquid inside the tank is less affected by temperature changes. Additionally, when produced with UV-resistant additives, it can be safely used outdoors.
