Series and panel sizes

Each series is defined by its mesh size, bar height (H) and bar thickness (T top, B bottom). Where a series comes in more than one panel size, every size is listed as an option.

Four surface types

The standard surface of GRP gratings is concave. Depending on the need and the point of use, they can be supplied with a sanded, smooth or covered surface, in different sizes and colours.

  • Concave surface: GRP grating surface example

    Concave surface

    Standard

The standard surface type for GRP gratings. The top of the bar section is concave; it suits many environments, including wet and oily conditions.

  • Sanded surface: GRP grating surface example

    Sanded surface

Preferred where extra slip resistance is needed. It is made by coating a concave or smooth grating with binder resin and sand, and its slip resistance is higher.

It is harder to clean where oily substances are used.

  • Smooth surface: GRP grating surface example

    Smooth surface

The concave surface is machined flat and smooth; the covered type adds a flat composite plate on top of the smooth grating. It is mostly used for decoration: façade railings, cover panels and architectural applications.

  • Covered chequered-plate surface: GRP grating surface example

    Covered chequered-plate surface

The top of a smooth-surface standard-mesh or mini-mesh grating is combined with a chequered-plate-effect surface.

Load values by support span

Point (F) and distributed (q) load values for five grating types at seven support spans. The ultimate load is given for each span as a multiple of F or q.

The table has no values for the H13, H30 (19×19 / 38×38) and H60 series.

  • Span: the distance between two supports (mm).
  • Point load F: a load acting at a single point (kg).
  • Distributed load q: a load spread evenly over the surface (kg/m²).
  • Ultimate load: given as a multiple of F or q depending on the span; for example 2 × F and 3 × q at a 300 mm span.

Features and uses

What is GRP grating?

Glass-fiber reinforced plastic (GRP) gratings are composite products made by combining resin with a fiberglass matrix. They are structural elements that carry loads across spans and are used for walkways and elevated platforms. Unlike steel gratings they do not corrode, which lowers maintenance costs in corrosive environments.

Advantages of GRP grating

  1. Corrosion-resistant

Does not rust like steel grating; used in corrosive environments with moisture, chemicals or salt water.

  2. Light and strong

A high strength-to-weight ratio makes it easy to carry and install.

  3. Bidirectional strength

The mesh of perpendicular bars carries load in both directions.

  4. Slip-resistant surface

The standard concave surface suits wet and oily conditions; a sanded surface can be chosen for extra slip resistance.

  5. Impact-resistant

    The composite structure resists impact.

  6. Non-conductive

Being electrically non-conductive is an advantage in electrical installations that need an insulating floor.

  7. Low maintenance, long service life

Because it does not rust, it needs little maintenance and stays in service for a long time.

  8. Wide choice

Available in a range of mesh sizes, heights, panel sizes, surface types and colors.
